As the Alabama Chapter of the National Emergency Number Association (NENA), AL-NENA boasts a membership of 524 individuals. NENA itself is a recognized professional association that encompasses a diverse group of stakeholders involved in 9-1-1 service delivery, including law enforcement, fire services, emergency medical services, 9-1-1 managers and board members, telecommunications personnel, and commercial entities catering to the 9-1-1 sector.

Operating as a non-profit organization, NENA is committed to facilitating the technological advancement and implementation of a universal emergency telephone number system.
